Irish Research: What’s Next after the Basics?
Let’s face it…it’s not easy to do Irish research. After you’ve researched the basic surviving records, what’s next? Keep in mind that everything in Irish research is dependent on time and place and that prior to 1864 (civil registration) there are no complete record sets. But there are records! This lecture will look at some additional places where you may find information about your ancestors.
Intermediate. Online database savvy and can locate/read deeds, vital records, wills, and church records., Advanced. Very experienced, including early US and foreign records.
Digital Resources: database tools/strategies; web tools (i.e. Google); general interest, Record Types: BMD vital records; church; cemeteries; census/substitutes; military; newspapers/obituaries; occupation; slave; tax; wills/probate; land records, Repositories: brick-and-mortar resources; courthouse; NARA
